Mobile bullying

It is just not right and we take it seriously! Any type of repetitive texting, calling or picture messaging that makes you feel threatened, offended or harassed is mobile bullying should not be tolerated.

What to do if you're being bullied or harassed

The following are guidelines from NetSafe:

  • Don't reply
  • Often the sender will get bored and stop sending messages if they don't get a response.
  • in accordance with the agreed industry policy, you need to have received 4 un-replied to, unwanted messages before we can take action. So it's important not to write/call back.
  • You shouldn't ever respond to a text from an unknown number.

Speak to a trusted friend or family member for support.

It's important that you confide in someone early on, who can provide advice.

Keep the unwanted messages so you can report them.

We need this information so we can help do something about it.

Let us know

  • If within the last 7 days you have received 4 or more unwanted, un-replied to messages or calls please call us on 800 to report it. We will investigate and can take appropriate action to stop the bullying – this may be in the form of a warning, barring or even deactivating the customer depending on the level of severity of the bullying.
  • If the bullying is coming from another mobile network, we have agreements in place all networks so we can to stop it.

I am getting phishing or scam texts sent to my phone, what do I do?

The sender of this text is probably using a random number generator to broadcast their phishing message to many thousands of mobile numbers in the hope that someone would take the bait.

Make sure you don't reply to these text messages. We will do what we can to inform our customers of these scams. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs provides some good information on scam alerts and where you can report a scam. Please see the Consumer Affairs site for more information.
